TORONTO, ON — We are incredibly proud to celebrate the official reopening of the Bert F. Grant Rink (Rink B) at Leaside Memorial Community Gardens. Following a comprehensive 12-month refurbishment, this historic facility—originally opened in 1952—has been transformed into a modern, year-round hub designed to serve the Toronto community for decades to come.
Modernizing a Community Staple
The extensive project, led by the City of Toronto’s Capital Projects team, featured a total overhaul of the mechanical systems, making 12-month ice access a reality for the first time. The renovation also introduced professional-grade safety boards—placing the facility in an elite class alongside Scotiabank Arena and Coca-Cola Coliseum—while fully modernizing the dressing rooms and accessibility features.
Honoring Our Roots
At the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, our former CEO, Bert A. Grant, joined local officials to mark the occasion at the rink named in honor of his father, the late Bert F. Grant.
This reopening is a profound milestone in our company’s history. The commitment to fostering community spirit demonstrated by the Grant family remains a core pillar of our values today. We are honored to see this legacy carry forward into a new chapter, ensuring that the Grant name continues to be synonymous with community growth and connection.
Investing in Future Generations
By providing a safe, high-quality, and permanent space for sport and recreation, we are not just preserving history—we are investing in the well-being of future generations of Torontonians. We look forward to seeing the rink serve as a gathering place for families, athletes, and neighbors for many years to come.
